Call Control of Desk Phone When Hoteling

Ability to be able to select and control (dial etc) a workspace desk phone configured with hoteling rather that a device assigned to a single user. Hot desking is very common in the modern office and many users only use shared phones.


This feature is possible with on-prem CUCM and Jabber. When logged into a phone with extension mobility that device is then available to the user for selection for call control in Jabber.

    November 2023 and this is still not implemented. For anyone moving from CUCM to Webex Calling, this is a step down. It's also a potential reason for us to stop planning our migration.

    Unless I am missing something I have tested this again today and I cannot see a way within the Webex client of selecting the hotelling /workspace device to which I am logged in. The only devices available to select are those user/personal assigned devices.


    Webex Client Version- 42.5.0.22021

    MPP Device - CP-8841 (sip88xx.11-3-6MPP0001-273)

    We are in the process of considering moving to a approx. 500 user Calling EA and this is a feature that for us would be a backwards step when migrating from on-prem CUCM to Webex calling.

    Desk Phone(MPP) control should work when hoteling in Webex Calling, could you let me know which details functionality is lost?

    Is this the ask for Webex calling? Or Webex with UCM calling

    A barrier to migration from on-prem CUCM to Webex Calling as it results in a loss of functionality. Majority of larger customers operate hot desking so this should be a priority.
